Tokyo Olympics: DISTRICT GIRLS TENNIS: Sequim’s Hastings finishes second


Hastings then defeated Enumclaw’s Macy Furtwanger 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. In the final, she fell to Taraneh Khalighi of Sammamish 6-2, 6-1. Hastings will next play in the 2A State Tennis Championships. Port Angeles singles player Liberty Lauer has won one of three matches in the district. She lost to Furtwanger 6-1, 6-3, but came back to beat Foss’ Lora Buena Venture 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 in a super tiebreaker. She lost to Olympic’s Bailey Walton 6-4, 6-1.

DISTRICT GIRLS TENNIS: Sequim’s Hastings Finishes Second Sequim’s Alexis Gale had a close couple of games. She beat Delaney Brinkhaus of Steilacoom 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-3, then lost to Teegan DeVris of North Kitsap 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, Sequim’s Jordan Hegtvedt and Malory Morey went 2-2 in the tournament. They won a match 6-1, 6-4 over Frohar Azizi and Cindy Thai of Foster, then lost 6-2, 6-4 to Sarah Chianglin and Viv Khuu of Sammamish, bouncing back to beat Beckham Oaks and Olivia Cary of North . Kitsap 6-2, 7-6, 7-3. Finally, they lost to Sydney Scribner and Jasmin Dumontel of Enumclaw 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, one game close to a state bid.

The State 2A tennis meet begins Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.

In the consolation bracket, Gale lost to Clover Park’s Sania Williams 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
