Thursday, January 6 is a busy day for Sulfur Springs sports, as three teams, both soccer and tennis teams, are in action.

Wildcats soccer is the first team formed on Thursday, January 6, day one of the Forney tournament.

Coach Alexi Upton and his team face Mesquite Poteet at 1:45 p.m. at City Bank Stadium in Forney.

Sulfur Springs is playing Forney again on Friday, Jan. 7 at Jackson MS against Ennis and Crandall at 10:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Wildcats Team Tennis also started early on matchday Thursday, taking on Sherman in the DFW Metroplex at 2pm.

The tennis program, led by head coach Tony Martinez, had a strong fall season, advancing to the playoffs before falling to Whitehouse in the Bi-District round.

Coach Martinez’s team improved in leaps and bounds in the fall, winning several games against opponents in the years gone by they may have been wiped out, including winning some games in the loss of the Bi-District v Whitehouse.

Team tennis is looking to improve on its strong fall season by starting spring 2022 with a victory at Sherman.

Switching to women’s football, the Lady Cats were originally scheduled to play in the Longview tournament, but that has since changed for the Kilgore tournament.

On Thursday, January 6, coach Javier Aguayo’s team are getting ready at 5:30 p.m. for their first game of the tournament against Bullard.

Sulfur Springs has two more tournament days from Kilgore Friday and Saturday:

  • Friday, January 7 – Spring Hill at 1:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 8 – Pleasant Grove at 5:30 p.m.
