A series of fundraising events organized by South Swindon Parish Council have raised nearly £2,000 for people fleeing or displaced by war in Ukraine.
Parish council libraries director Aaron Cripps was spurred on by someone he knew quite well after getting caught up in the dispute, his Ukraine-based Russian language tutor, Nika Minchenko.
The entire parish council rallied behind him and raised a total of £1783.52 to support the people of Ukraine.
The first event in March saw around 100 runners dress up in yellow and blue for a special fundraising edition of the Sevenfields Park Run hosted by Phil Jefferies, which many borough and parish councilors parked at.
Then, in April, parish council officers Aaron Webb, Michaela Johnston and Alex Jackson prepared a curry to fuel ten teams for a quiz night.
The third and final event, also in April, saw National Tennis Association coach Craig Loxton host a mini doubles tournament at the Swindon Tennis Center for National Tennis Association club members from St. Mark.
Aaron said: “Central Swindon North Parish would like to thank everyone who took part in the fundraisers and are delighted that, thanks to the generosity of those who supported the events, £1,783 has been raised to support the people of Ukraine. “
