Registration opened on July 6 for the 2022 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics which will run from September 10-24. More than 70 individual events will be hosted at 25 different locations across Northern Virginia.

“We are expecting record attendance as many of our indoor events were unavailable last year due to Covid,” said NVSO President Herb Levitan. “We’re also celebrating our 40th anniversary,” said Levitan, who has competed for 20 years.

Registration is only done online at www.nvso.us. The registration fee is $20 and covers an unlimited number of events. Additional charges apply for bowling, orienteering and cycling. Adults age 50 as of December 31 who live in sponsoring jurisdictions are eligible to participate. There is no on-site registration. The website also features several photos taken by the Osher Life Long Learning Photography Club at George Mason University. Their NVSO photos are also on display at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington and the Oak Marr Recreation Center in Oakton.

Events for 2022 include Track & Field, ERG Rowing, Cycling, Swimming, Diving, Wii Bowling, Ten-Pin Bowling, Eight-Ball and Nine-Ball Billiards, Tennis, Scrabble, Crossword , croquet, Mexican dominoes, sudoku, handball, Rummikub, football and frisbee throwing, softball hitting and throwing, puzzle, Mah Jongg, pétanque, horseshoes, cribbage, cornhole throwing, pickleball, tennis Tabletop, 5K Trail Running, Basketball Field Goals and Free Throw, Orienteering, Field Events, Racquetball, Bunco, Line Dancing, Miniature Golf, Doubles Bridge, Canasta and Badminton. New this year is weightlifting. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded after each event. All events are open to the public.
