PERPETUAL came to life in the second half to rout Jose Rizal University, 84-60, for its first victory in the NCAA Senior Basketball Tournament of the ’98 season on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan.
Joey Barcuma sparked the breakaway, scoring a career-high 22 points on a near-perfect 10-of-11 shot in the final three frames as the Altas recovered from a lackluster first period that saw them fall behind by 12 dots.
Barcuma’s four interceptions marked Perpetual’s 28-point third quarter that turned a tight 37-36 halftime lead into a 65-51 advantage.

“Before going to this game, sabi namin is our definition of our 98 season. Baka nag-sink in yung pressure sa kanila kaya flat start kami,” coach Myk Saguiguit said. “Pero pagpasok ng canoe, sabi ko tama na round robin natin. Trabaho na tayo.”
