There’s no denying the Braves have been one of the best teams this season. However, they are still trailing the Mets in Eastern Newfoundland and the Phillies have a chance to gain ground. It may seem surprising after last night, but tonight’s game is the complete opposite. Atlanta had its rookie sensation Spencer Strider on the mound with Phillies reliever Nick Nelson across from him. The script is reversed tonight with Philly ace Zack Wheeler taking the mound against an aging Charlie Morton. That said, we’re still going to attack both teams for a big win while needing minimal legs to hit. Philadelphia Phillies +1.5 (-185) vs. Atlanta Braves
We’ll play it safe on the racing line, but outright upset should be on the horizon. It’s rare for the Phillies to even be an underdog with Zack Wheeler on the mound. This game was originally listed at +145, so clearly others felt the same way. Wheeler may not be Miami’s Sandy Alcantara, but he was a top NL Cy Young prospect earlier in the season. He’s since gotten longer, but at the height of his season, he picked up a fine 7-3 win over the Braves. He held the big Atlanta squad to just 2 runs in just under 7.0 innings, while striking out 10 batters.
Although he lost his 2nd start against the Braves, he allowed only one run more than the previous game and still struck out 8 batters. The Phillies roster should be able to avenge that loss by handing Charlie Morton back-to-back losses to them. He is coming off a loss to Philly in his last start, allowing 5 runs in 5.0 innings in what ended up being a 7-2 loss. It was the 3rd loss suffered by the Braves last month behind the departures of Morton. It was also the series finale in which the Phillies won 2 of 3 games. They then swept their next 4-game series before entering this one. Although that streak ended due to a bullpen day last night, they can start a new 1 behind Wheeler tonight.

Travis d’Arnaud 2+ total bases (+175)
As if that were not enough, this accessory increases our chances exponentially and allows us to only need 2 legs to strike. Targeting a Braves player while predicting a Phillies win is the main factor behind this, but it’s for good reason. We’re also not targeting superstar names like Austin Riley or Matt Olson, but rather a solid underhand hitter in Travis d’Arnaud. His 114 total goals aren’t among the best in the league, but he’s only played 69 games this season. However, that’s common as a catcher and we’re about to explain why he should start this afternoon.
He had some incredible hitting streaks this season, 1 of which included a streak against the Phillies. Specifically, d’Arnaud had a great game against Wheeler and has an overall history of success against him. He’s 7 for 15 against the Phillies ace, with a .733 hitting percentage and had 5 total goals in Wheeler’s last start against the Braves. It capped a streak in which he hit that prop in 6 of 7 games, against the Cubs, Giants, Dodgers and Phillies. Even better, he recorded those 5 goals in total, while the Phillies still got the win. This is exactly the scenario we should see tonight.
