As usual, MLB Sundays are always capped off with ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball Game. It stands out from the rest of the games for the featured game of the weekend. These are often divisional rivalries and tonight is no exception. However, it’s hard to call this matchup a rivalry given how the season streak has gone so far. The Dodgers have won 12 of the last 13 meetings between these teams. They have already secured their buyout on the 2021 Giants by winning the division. While this game won’t be an uphill battle to decide the NL West, there are still markets to target and monetize this final.

Let’s take a closer look at each step of our same game bet.
Over 7.5 total runs (-112)
We’re going to focus on the total to kick things off, rather than predicting a team. Although the Dodgers have outplayed the Giants this season, starter Andrew Heaney is a bit harder to trust. He was the one on the mound for the Dodgers 1 loss in the last 13 meetings. This game was a 7-4 victory for the Giants, which easily went over the total. Heaney allowed 6 of those runs and wasn’t as strong in his other start against San Francisco this year. The Dodgers won the game, but it only lasted 4.0 innings. However, it was also a high-scoring game that ended with 10 runs in total.
Likewise, Giants starter Alex Cobb just faced the Dodgers 11 days ago in a game that ended with 10 total points. He hasn’t beaten LA in any of his 3 starts against them this season, but just beat the Braves in a great performance. Therefore, he too makes the side more difficult to predict. Cobb’s first start against the Dodgers this year was also a high scorer, as he finished with 11 total points. All of these high totals should come as no surprise. LA is the most successful team in baseball and has 3 NL MVP candidates at the top of their roster. As this is a nationally televised primetime game, they should all be active. With a poor Giants bullpen, expect plenty of runs with all eyes on this game.

Mookie Betts 2+ total goals (-110)
Let’s target one of these MVP candidates for our next play. Mookie Betts has won the award before and apparently is a nominee every year. If he hadn’t missed time this season, he would have had a much better chance. Either way, he’s still having an amazing season. His 282 total goals are the 5th most in the NL, and he’s played nearly 20 fewer games than some of the guys above him. That’s why his .551 hit percentage is better than those before him.
Although he missed all of those games, his 34 home runs are tied for 4th in the NL. Betts also has the most success against Cobb of the Dodgers’ Big 3 (Betts, Freddie Freeman and Trea Turner). He has a .543 hitting percentage against him, with 5 of his 10 hits being of the extra-base variety. Betts was the only one of the big three not to touch that prop last night, so expect him to bounce back into the national spotlight tonight.
Justin Turner to record a hit (-195)
We’re going to move away from the Dodgers MVP candidates and go with third baseman Justin Turner to top it all off. Just because he doesn’t have an MVP attached to his name doesn’t mean he’s not a stud. He would be the best hitter on almost any other team, and he led LA last season. He’s still averaging one hit per game this season, and just went 3-for-4 last night. His 35 doubles are even more than Betts, so a single play on his total base prop would also be valuable. We’re still getting good overall odds using just his prop, which shouldn’t be a problem against Cobb. He doesn’t have as much history as Betts against him, but it’s still successful. Turner is 2-3 with a home run against Cobb, so trust him to make it into this final.
