Proceeds from the event help D/FW women
achieve and maintain recovery from alcoholism
DALLAS, TX (June 16, 2022) – The Magdalen House, a nonprofit organization that helps women get sober and recover from alcoholism at no cost and based on 12-step spiritual principles, recently hosted its second annual Game, Set, Match tennis event at Lakewood Country Club.
To celebrate La Maison-de-la-Madeleine’s 35th anniversary, this year’s Game, Set, Match event focused on the 80s. Guests enjoyed a great day of tennis and live music from The Vinyl Countdown. Over $50,000 was raised, which will cover the cost of vital recovery services for 27 women who enroll in the First Step program.
“For 35 years, we have been proud to have changed the lives of so many women alcoholics by offering compassion and support at every stage of their recovery,” says Lisa Kroencke, Executive Director of La Maison-Madeleine. “The funds generated by Game, Set, Match allow us to offer programs that provide solutions-based education and resources to women alcoholics and their families and loved ones.”
According to a recent study, women increased their alcohol consumption by 41% before the pandemic. Today, there are over 250,000 female alcoholics in D/FW alone. Fewer than 1 in 15 alcoholic women (only 6.9%) will seek formal help. Because women face more stigma, shame, family responsibilities, and socioeconomic barriers than men, they frequently have concurrent disorders and are less likely to seek treatment.
La Maison de la Madeleine is committed to helping women alcoholics achieve lasting, long-term recovery through the following comprehensive, spiritually-based programs.
First Step Program: A two-week residential program for a female alcoholic who wants to stop drinking but cannot. She receives the education and resources to achieve sobriety and lay the foundation for recovery.
Next Step Program: A three-phase non-residential program for a female alcoholic at any stage of her recovery. She receives support and structure to support her recovery while developing her knowledge of 12-step spiritual principles.
Meetings and conviviality: Solution-focused classes, meetings, and workshops are offered to women alcoholics at every stage of their recovery, 365 days a year. We also have dedicated volunteers who provide family support to families and loved ones of alcoholics.
Resources and Education: Community partnerships help us connect women alcoholics and their families to resources that include sober living, counseling and women’s health. At the same time, education initiatives enable us to reach and serve more women alcoholics.
