Dutch tennis legend Richard Krajicek says Iga Swiatek has a big game and a great mentality on the court. Swiatek, 21, has been absolutely dominant for the past four months. Swiatek has won her last 35 matches and she will be looking for her seventh consecutive title in a few weeks at Wimbledon.
Swiatek has mostly won her matches in dominant fashion during her winning streak, but even when she struggled with her game, she managed to find a way to win matches. When it matters most to deliver, Swiatek always comes first.
Krajicek: Swiatek is amazing
“She’s amazing – big game and yes the mentality is important. That decides a lot of games. Of course you have to be able to play, but when it’s really close it’s always the little things that make the difference .
How do you deal with the bad bounces you get – literally but also figuratively? During the match, there are always small setbacks or unexpected disappointments. If you continue to dwell on it, it will hurt you, even beyond this point.
And that’s easier said than done – I’ve been a player and also sometimes lingered too long on bad points or missed opportunities, but that’s often the difference between the top and the people in below,” Krajicek told Tennis Majors.
Swiatek was supposed to kick off her grass season in Berlin, but she pulled out of the event. However, she plans to compete at Wimbledon, where she will aim to win her third Grand Slam. Swiatek made her Wimbledon debut in 2019, when she suffered a first-round defeat.
Last year, Swiatek reached the knockout stages of Wimbledon before losing to Ons Jabeur. It remains to be seen how far Swiatek can go in his third Wimbledon appearance.
