JAIPUR: The Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Olympics will be held in the state from August 29 to October 2. Sports and games will be organized at the gram panchayat, block, district and state levels, which will encourage sports and sportsmen.
The Chief Minister said that for the first time the Grameen Olympics were being held and about 27 lakh sportsmen would participate.
He said that during these rural Olympics, competitions in Kabaddi, shooting, volleyball, tennis ball, cricket, kho-kho, volleyball and hockey would be held at 11,341 Gram Panchayat, 352 Block , 33 District and State level of the State. This event will become a major means of talent hunting in the state and in the state.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the sports department chaired by the Prime Minister. It has been noted that various programs are organized in the state for the promotion of sports and sportsmen. The state government, under its no-filming policy, has given 164 nominations to sportsmen and 65 are pending.
It was also decided that the high-level sports training and rehabilitation center built at the SMS stadium and its inauguration will take place on May 29.
The construction of the center was carried out at a cost of Rs 13.79 crore and six types of laboratories have been developed there.
Sports Minister Ashok Chandana informed that the framework for a new sports policy has been prepared.
