Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has been asked to move a Spain game by Gerard pricks so he could watch a tennis match with his then-girlfriend, Shakira.
That’s according to Spanish publication El Confidencial, who claim the Barcelona defender approached Rubiales ahead of Spain’s European Championship qualifiers against Romania in November 2019 with the request.
Pique, who has made 102 appearances for La Roja in his career, was keen to attend a Davis Cup game in Madrid on Monday, November 18.
The former Manchester United centre-back, who is the chairman of Kosmos Tennis, a company that manages the Davis Cup with the ITF, told Rubiales the following, according to the report.
“Rubi, we have to talk about an issue that is very important to me and you have to do me this favor somehow. I will explain to you. I see that there is a match, which is Spain-Romania on Monday November 18.
“On Monday, November 18, the Davis Cup also starts in Madrid. Shakira will do the inauguration, my partner will sing, we will put on an insane show, in the afternoon there will be matches.
“Of course, if that same match between Spain and Romania at Wanda also takes place, we cannibalize each other, we ruin each other. I don’t know what the schedule is before, I don’t know if it can be moved to Sunday , which would be perfect.
“I don’t know if you play on Friday or Thursday… Let’s look at the question of the schedule, but I know that you still haven’t started selling tickets and it would be possible to move it, so let’s look at it.”
Rubiales reportedly responded to the request by saying, “Ok, I’ll look if it’s possible, I don’t know if it’s possible, but if it’s possible we’ll try.”
But the game against Spain went as planned, with Robert Moreno’s side earning a 5-0 victory thanks to goals from Fabian Ruiz, Gerard Moreno. Adrian Rus [OG] and Mikel Oyarzabal.
Pique, meanwhile, didn’t feature in the squad.
Pique’s news comes days after the leaked audio of Sergio Ramos asking for help from the Spanish Football Federation to win the Ballon d’Or in 2020.
According to the Spanish media El Confidential, the former Real Madrid captain was recorded chatting with Rubiales.
During the conversation, the defender was heard pleading his case to become the winner of the prestigious award, and openly asking Rubiales‘ support in his attempt to become the first defender since fabio Cannavaro to win it.
Ramos was reportedly heard saying, “You know I never asked you for anything, but if I want to do it today, it’s because I think this year has been special for the performances I’ve had.
“I would like you to help me in any way possible and use your connections to UEFA linked to the Ball Golden.

Rubiales also said that although he has no power to decide the winner of the prize, he would be ready to help in any way possible.
