Game! Adjust! Match! Grenada Tourist Board serves up aces at US Open Citi Taste of Tennis


NEW YORK – The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) proudly presented the flavors of Grenada for the first time during the pre-US Open Citi The Taste of Tennis event in New York. This prestigious event, considered the world’s leading tennis and gastronomy event, brings together the best tennis players in the world. In addition, signature cuisine from top chefs in one place.

Showcasing the spices of Grenada

As sponsor of the event, the GTA a shared kitchen that illustrates why the destination is the first culinary capital of the World Food Travel Association.

GTA CEO Petra Roach said, “Citi Taste of Tennis has given Grenada a great opportunity to showcase how we use our spices, our fine tree-to-bar chocolate and our world-class rum to create a dining experience unlike any other. As a boutique destination, we take special care in partnering with boutique events with an audience that matches our visitor demographics and Citi Taste of Tennis has given us just that.

Chef Belinda Bishop offers fan-favorite dishes, stuffed breadfruit and cassava ravioli with a coconut-turmeric sauce.

Grenadine chef Belinda Bishop has been chosen to lead Grenada’s culinary offering. She prepared an appetizing ravioli stuffed with breadfruit and cassava with a coconut and turmeric sauce that was a gastronomic delight. Chef Bishop also used award-winning chocolate and Cannes Brûlée rum in two desserts. One is a spiced cocoa banana bread pudding with caramel rum sauce. The other was a chocolate grenadine tart with a nutmeg custard.

The focus on chocolate and rum was also highlighted with a superb presentation of cocoa and chocolate from Belmont Estate and Tri-Island Chocolate. Guests were also treated to tastings of Cannes Royale Extra Old Rum, an aged artisanal rum. Rounding out the presentation, aromatic nutmeg from Grenada took center stage with the princess nutmeg. She is, a symbol of national pride, presiding over the occasion.

Former US Open champion Marin Cilic got in on the action and stopped by the Spice of the Caribbean booth for his share of the evening’s treats. There were also appearances from Venus and Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios. Also, celebrities such as Garbiñe Muguruza and Eva Longoria.
