Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas have all signed up to compete at the Astana Open in Nur-Sultan this year. The Astana Open, which held its first edition in 2020, is gearing up for its third tournament edition.

After not really featuring strong player fields in the first two years, the Astana Open is set to welcome some of the best players in the game this year.

In the first two years, the Astana Open belonged to the ATP 250 club. For this season, the tournament has been upgraded to the ATP 500 level. That is why the tournament is organized with a star field.

Medvedev, Alcaraz and Tsitsipas will all be making their Astana Open debuts this year. The Astana Open is scheduled to take place from October 03-09.

Medvedev hopes to bounce back at Nur-Sultan

Medvedev, who is still the highest ranked player in the world, failed to defend his US Open title.

Medvedev left the US Open on Sunday after Nick Kyrgios handed him a 7-6 (11) 3-6 6-3 6-2 loss. After the match, Medvedev admitted that he felt like playing against a member of the Big Three group. “It was a top game,” Medvedev said.

“(Kyrgios) played (like) Novak, Rafa. They’re all playing amazing. Nick played today a bit on their level, in my opinion. He’s got a bit of a different game because he’s not not like a crusher somehow. At the same time he can rally.

It is difficult to play. He has amazing service. But basic it’s not like when the point starts, you know you have the advantage. He plays well. He’s got all the punches.” As Medvedev is set to drop a noticeable number of points, he will drop the No. 1 spot on Monday.

Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud all have a chance to overtake Medvedev for the top spot in a few days. It remains to be seen how will bounce back from his disappointment at the US Open.
