Medvedev hopes to bounce back at Nur-Sultan
Medvedev, who is still the highest ranked player in the world, failed to defend his US Open title.
Medvedev left the US Open on Sunday after Nick Kyrgios handed him a 7-6 (11) 3-6 6-3 6-2 loss. After the match, Medvedev admitted that he felt like playing against a member of the Big Three group. “It was a top game,” Medvedev said.
“(Kyrgios) played (like) Novak, Rafa. They’re all playing amazing. Nick played today a bit on their level, in my opinion. He’s got a bit of a different game because he’s not not like a crusher somehow. At the same time he can rally.
It is difficult to play. He has amazing service. But basic it’s not like when the point starts, you know you have the advantage. He plays well. He’s got all the punches.” As Medvedev is set to drop a noticeable number of points, he will drop the No. 1 spot on Monday.
Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud all have a chance to overtake Medvedev for the top spot in a few days. It remains to be seen how will bounce back from his disappointment at the US Open.
