Boys Tennis: No. 5 Marlboro edges Ranney for Shore Conference Tournament title


For the second straight year, Marlboro, ranked No. 5 in’s Top 20, won the Shore Conference Tournament title Tuesday afternoon at Park Avenue Tennis Center.

The top-seeded Mustangs (17-0) beat second-seeded Ranney 5-0, Marlboro also beat Ranney by the same scoreline late last month.

In the first single, Sadhista Linga beat Braden Chavez, 6-3, 6-2. In second singles, Sourish Gadhi defeated Oscar Chu, 6-0, 6-1, while third singles Edmond Niu picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Max Goldenberg.

Scott Silverstein and Nate Roberman also won 6-1, 6-4 in the first double against Jett Pacifico and Thomas Boyan. In the second double, Kelvin Liwag and Jayden Hsu also won 7-5, 6-2 against Reed Hall and Trey Junkin.

Last week, Marlboro also entered the Monmouth County tournament and Ranney (17-3) placed second. Marlboro and Ranney met in the three-place singles as well as the first doubles, with the Mustangs winning the home championships on all five flights overall.

On Wednesday, Marlboro hosts Monroe in the quarterfinals of the Central Jersey Sectional Tag Team Tournament, Group 4, while Ranney is at home against Moorestown Friends in the semifinals of the South Jersey, Non-Public B Tournament later in the week.
